It’s been a long time since I last blogged and I’m still busy with a lot of school stuff. However, I think it’s time I returned :))

It’s October and we’re in the middle of autumn. There are many activities to do with kids at school. We make bookmarks, take photographs and write stories for them. However these all have to be planned before. Here is a reserve activity which can help you have fun with rhymes and riddles.
What’s a big orange vegetable that rhymes with skin? (pumpkin)
Who guards the crops and rhymes with row? (skarecrow)
The color of leaves that rhymes with bed? (red)
The color of leaves that rhymes with hello? (yellow)
The color of leaves that rhymes with down? (brown)
What vegetable is yellow and rhymes with born? (corn)
What is the wind that rhymes with fool? (cool)
Where is food grown that rhymes with arm? (farm)
What fall holiday rhymes with teen? (Halloween)
What is another word for autumn that rhymes with ball? (fall)
What do farmers harvest that rhymes with mops? (crops)
What falls to the ground and rhymes with reef? (leaf)
What do students start that rhymes with cool? (school)
Have a nice weekend :)
A German data protection authority is “unliking” Facebook’s “Like” button.
The state of Schleswig-Holstein’s data protection commissioner, Thilo Weichert, on Friday ordered state institutions to shut down the fan pages on the social networking site and remove the “Like” button from their websites, saying it leads to profiling that violates German and European law.
Facebook insisted Friday that is in full compliance with European data protection laws.
On Friday, Weichert issued a statement saying technical analysis by his office shows Facebook violated German and European data protection laws by passing content data to the social network’s servers in the U.S.

I quite love having lessons outdoor. It may be a social area or just the school yard. The only thing we need is sunlight. Thus we get energy enough to enjoy being outside the classroom.
If it is dry outside, it is best for children to move on the grass and relax for some time. Then, we began our lesson.
I stroke upon an idea while watching CSI:NY but students don’t have to know that :)
OK. Children work in pairs in this activity. One lies on the floor and the other draws a body outline with a piece of chalk in a limited time that you have determined. Then, pairs exchange the bodies (they may do this randomly or in an order that you set) and again they work in pairs to write the names of the body parts in a limited time.
As a secondary extension you can turn the activity into a game in which children will try to find out whom the body shapes belong to.
Therefore, children will have used their kinesthetic, visual, interpersonal, intrapersonal, natural and logical intelligences. You may add a speaking activity to use linguistic intelligence.
I’m looking forward to trying it after the school opens.
Have a nice weekend :)

Have you ever tried to give instructions via songs?
For instance, you’d like your students to concentrate on the subject and give their attention to you.
Why don’t you do this by singing a song such as the one below taken from The Idea Box?
Active listeners, Active listeners, Eyes on me, Ears on me, Sitting flat, Hands in your lap. Listening ! Learning ! (tune: Are you sleeping?)
Or you can call out to your students to line up for lunch with another simple song. All you need is a little creativity and a singing voice :))

I’ve found a very useful website that may help you teach vocabulary. You may be a student, a teacher or a parent. It is a fun online study program for students, or an assistant to you for your children’s homework. And if you are a teacher, it offers you the features below: · Upload word lists one week at a time or for the whole year · Customize sentences · Share and import lists · Teach spelling, vocabulary and word meaning with interactive games · Print worksheets to practice handwriting, spelling and vocabulary · Print spelling lists and games · Give practice and final spelling tests · Automatically grade, record and save your students’ test scores (available with Premium Membership) · Print all of your students’ spelling tests at once (available with Premium Membership) · Access our extensive list of resources for teachers, including compound words, sight/Dolch words, literature-based word lists , sound-alike words and much more. · Send home letters (in English and Spanish) to parents explaining how to use SpellingCity
Though it requires premium membership for many features, VocabularySpellingCity seems worthwhile. :)
Today, I was directed to a website for English Teachers. Though it did not seem so appealing, I dropped by to check if I could benefit from it. And I’m glad I did :)
The English Teacher website was created by Leif Danielson, who is a retired English teacher. He says he aims to teach new English Teachers and continues adding resources for them.
Sometimes we get inspired by other ideas and develop new ones.
You may need to glance over the page when you feel stuck preparing your lesson plan.
Have a good day :))
Smories are stories written by adults and read by children. The text goes along the top of the page and may be a little small, but the kids reading the stories are very engaging. I know my reading group will love these. I certainly did. There are no pictures, just the charming face of the young reader. Kids love other kids and always benefit from someone reading to them. Make sure to view full screen.I record my students during reading using Aviary and they quite like it. It really lets them shine! Hopefully listening to Smories will spur them on to read better.
It will be enjoyable to try at school in the lab. If it seems too challenging, pupils can tick the “read along” option.
